Humans of MacKeeper: Mammon, Account Manager

Humans of MacKeeper: Mammon, Account Manager

Humans of MacKeeper is a series of interviews with our team. We talked to engineers, designers, product managers, analysts, marketers, and many others to take you backstage at MacKeeper. We believe that people are the heart of any business, and we want you to meet the heart of ours. Welcome behind-the-scenes!

Nickname: Mammon

Position: PPC Account Manager

Random fact: Mammon loves electronic music. He believes that the right type of sound can help you recharge your internal batteries and unwind.

Let's travel back to your first day at work. What was it like?

Well, it was not that long ago, but I clearly remember my first tour around the office. I remember candies and branded souvenirs were left on my table — it was a really nice gesture. I remember how much information hit me at the very beginning — about analytics and everything I was supposed to do. In general, my first working day did not last long, but it was really fun.

Did you hesitate before accepting a job offer?

I came here on purpose. I was leaving my previous position for a number of reasons, when my friend told about a relevant opportunity — an account manager position at the company he was working at. So I decided to give it a try: I completed a test assignment, passed an interview, and received a job offer. Afterward, I finished my two weeks at my previous position and came here. I never had any doubts or regrets about this decision.

Your nickname is Mammon. What does it mean for you?

Many people ask this question, but in fact, the answer is very simple: it was my first nickname in a play. Historic reenactment is one of my hobbies, and Mammon was the surname of my first character.

Let's talk business. What team you are a part of? What role does your team play for MacKeeper?

I work on the PPC team. We buy traffic and advertisements on search engines and advertising platforms like Yahoo or Google. We pick the relevant audience segments that may be potentially interested in our product. Then, we choose the right message and deliver it. Our goal is to attract the right people, show them our product, and drive their interest to try it out.

Describe your typical day at work.

Checking analytics and statistics across all channels is what I do as my day-to-day job. Once a week or more often, I meet with partners. Routine as such is not particularly present in my workflow, as I am more focused on addressing broad goals and tackling minor problems if any crop up.

But it used to be different. When I managed GDN (Google Display Network), I had plenty of routine tasks — monitoring campaigns, optimizing them, removing those that don’t perform as expected, and so on. Now the scope of tasks is a bit different, as I am more focused on Project Management than on Account Management. My current role provides me with a lot of new challenges, and that’s what I love about it.

Name three character traits or skills that are necessary for your job.

Stress-resistance, readiness to take complex tasks, and creativity. As there are always competitors, and you need to stand out.

If you could choose any superpower to help you with your job, what would it be?

I wish I could immediately complete up to ten tasks with one flick of the finger. I’d just snap my fingers — and each of my wishes would become real — be it a freshly brewed coffee or a completed task.

What helps you keep up with trends in your niche?

To keep up with the trends, you should always read niche blogs — NetPeak is a good example. Available both in Russian and English, it’s very good for newbies and mid-level specialists because it explains a lot of basic things.

It’s more difficult to find a comparable source for more experienced PPC specialists, though. There are plenty of blogs of different caliber, like Adstage, PPCWorld, and many others. However, communicating with people from your industry is the best way to get new insights.

Describe your job in three words.

This company gives extensive opportunities for development. Plus, I have a limitless potential of learning from my colleagues, who are very experienced in PPC as well.

Because we are people here who go hiking to the Carpathians just to have some fun together.

This association may seem to be too direct and trivial, but after all, we don’t work here for food.

Is there something about your job you feel proud of?

I do feel proud, not of myself, but of a company in general — the atmosphere and the people who create it. This corporation is different from most others. Working here is not about the 9-to-5 way of life. My colleagues work really hard to exceed expectations and bring something new into their workflow and the company at large.

On days when you lack motivation for work, what helps you to pull yourself up and do it?

Well, such days exist. Whenever I feel a lack of energy or motivation, I turn on the right music and tune into work. It’s important to stay focused and keep yourself from visiting websites that are not related to business.

What is your personal anti-stress recipe? How do you recharge after a busy week at work?

I create electronic music — and it helps a lot, really. I cannot do it right after work in the evening, as I need to get some sleep first. When energy comes back to me, my creativity and inspiration wake up and push me to do something great. Music helps you unwind, recharge internal batteries, and get away from the routine.

Describe your dream job.

I am eager to try working in larger companies, including key gaming and entertainment industry players like Blizzard Entertainment or CD Project. I’d like to frame product promotion on a global level, going beyond PPC as a channel to Marketing as a whole.

Now imagine you've got the job offer of your dreams. It's too good to reject, so you're leaving. What piece of advice would you give the company and your team before you head out?

I would reflect on how cool it was to work here, how many things we went through together, and how much I learned being a part of this team. And of course, I will say that I hope to stay in touch, as I am very grateful to everyone for their collaborative and deliberate teamwork.
