How to free up gigabytes of memory on your iPhone (with one simple trick)

If you have an iPhone with 16GB, you always deal with low storage. Luckily, there is a quick way to instantly gain a couple of gigabytes of free space using this simple and safe method. It may seem a little unconventional but it really works and does not require any third-party app.

Give it a try!

Step 1: First of all, check how much memory you have: go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage and remember the available storage.

Step 2: Then open the iTunes Store app > go to Movies tab > choose a large movie (it should be larger than the free space available on your iPhone). There are really good examples of large movies advised on reddit.

Finally, tap the Rent button twice to initiate the download process.

Note: by clicking “rent” button you don't actually pay for it. Your iPhone is scanned for the available memory and unless there is enough space, the file will not be downloaded.

Step 3: After you see the pop up saying that there’s not enough available space on your device to download the movie, go back to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage.

You will be surprised to see additional gigabytes of available storage on your device.

Step 4: Repeat the whole process until you have enough memory to download the file. Be careful and always choose a movie bigger than your free storage space. After every attempt you should see how the free storage gradually increases.

I have tested this trick on iPhone 6 and here are the results that came up each time I started the process.

1.7GB

3.2GB

3.4GB

3.6GB

3.8GB

I gained 2.1GB of storage after 5 tries. After the fifth attempt the available space stopped increasing. You can continue tries to rent the movie until you have enough space to actually download the file.

How much space did you free up? Once you’ve tried the trick, share the results in the comments!
