Tips for Choosing the Best Web Browser

Guess what’s the most commonly used computer application? There’s a single place where we all socialize, entertain, or search information, and that’s a web browser. With dozens of them available, choosing the best one is not that easy. Which browser is your favorite one? Do you know other alternatives?

This guide is for you in case you aren’t satisfied with your current browser or if you want to try something new. We’ve reviewed four most popular browsers and highlighted their pros and cons. Check it out!

Google Chrome: Best Choice for High Performance

Pros

With a slick and simple interface, it’s no wonder Google Chrome is the most popular web-browser worldwide. Chrome is stable, cross-platform, and comes with thousands of useful extensions. This browser also enables filtering the content with parental controls and is highly customizable.

What’s more, Chrome’s synchronization is one of the best among other browsers. It doesn’t matter if you are using work or home computer, Mac or PC – Chrome keeps all your settings and bookmarks at hand. The process of importing and exporting bookmarks is really easy.

Cons

Chrome is the most resource-consuming browser. In case your computer has too little RAM, Chrome may slow down your machine. Remember, Google is using your browser data to track your online habits, and that’s what can make you feel nervous.

Summary. Google Chrome — the champion in speed.

Mozilla Firefox: Best Choice for Flexibility and Customization

Pros

Firefox used to be a leader in the browser market, but now it is a step behind. This browser is the only one that is not operated by a large corporation, so it focuses on users’ comfort instead of a commercial benefit.

Firefox works on multiple platforms, including both desktop and mobile. But the best thing is Mozilla’s customization options: install an add-on and get a lot of tweaks, which aren’t available to other browsers.

Cons

Using Firefox for Mac feels a bit sluggish as it doesn’t offer the multi-process architecture like other browsers do. Some design solutions, like separating search bar and URL bar, seem a bit weird and outdated.

Summary. Mozilla Firefox — the champion in сustomization.

Safari: Best Choice for Energy Saving

Pros

As a default macOS web browser for last ten years, Safari offers some exclusive features, that aren’t available for other browsers. For example, Safari for macOS High Sierra can pause the video and audio autoplay. It also comes with a built-in ad-blocking feature, that prevents advertising companies from tracking your search results and displaying targeted ads.

Safari is also the least resource-consuming browser as it is specifically adjusted to macOS. If you want your MacBook to stay on the go longer, choose Safari as your primary browser.

Cons

Unfortunately, Safari works only on Apple devices and cannot be used on other platforms except iOS. This is not handy if you work with macOS along with Windows or Linux. And one more thing: it is a real pain to export or import all your bookmarks from Safari.

Summary. Safari — the champion in battery saving.

Opera: Best Choice for Slow Connections

Pros

The Opera browser is way less popular, but it is able to do the same things as other browsers do. Even more, its Turbo mode compresses your traffic and sends it through Opera’s own servers. Opera Turbo is a must-have for a limited internet speed, old dial-up modem, or the overloaded servers of your ISP.

What’s more, Opera has a built-in VPN to bypass the network restrictions, and this works for a mobile connection too. Opera deactivates all traffic redirections to avoid any violations and possible traffic interception. This way you don’t have to worry when banking or shopping online. Opera also provides sync option across different platforms, so that you can access all your bookmarks on any computer.

Cons

Opera offers a fewer number of plugins and has less customizing options than other browsers.

Summary. Opera — the champion in efficiency.
