Compartimos nuestros datos con bancos, instituciones médicas y empresas. Compartimos nuestra información con teléfonos, televisores y relojes inteligentes y con otros "objetos inteligentes" del hogar, que suelen almacenar esta información en bases de datos remotas fuera de nuestro control. Estas tecnologías están profundamente integradas en nuestras vidas y, en muchos casos, nos hemos vuelto dependientes de ellas, lo que nos hace vulnerables cuando la tecnología falla o cuando nuestra información no se encuentra debidamente protegida.

Nuestra investigación

Nuestra investigación de seguridad tiene como objetivo encontrar información expuesta en las bases de datos de varias empresas, organizaciones e instituciones.

Normalmente utilizamos el motor de búsqueda Shodan para localizar dispositivos desprotegidos conectados a Internet. Este motor de búsqueda es accesible para el público general y permite a los investigadores identificar dispositivos y bases de datos que están conectados al Internet abierto sin ninguna protección con contraseña ni ninguna otra barrera tecnológica que salvaguarde los datos que albergan. No desciframos contraseñas ni alteramos procesos de autenticación, ni utilizamos ninguna otra técnica de hacking.

Cuando descubrimos que una base de datos está expuesta públicamente, informamos de nuestros hallazgos en función de las siguientes directrices:

  • Si procede, proporcionamos los detalles de la exposición de datos a la empresa, organización o institución que no se haya protegido correctamente.
  • No modificamos los datos que encontramos.
  • Damos tiempo a las entidades para solucionar la filtración de sus datos antes de hacer público cualquier detalle que pudiera incrementar el riesgo.
  • No transferimos datos a ningún tercero.
