How to Save Image on Mac

It’s easy to save an image on a Mac. Whether you want to download your own photos from a camera, email attachments, or even memes from the internet, you’ll be able to do it quickly.

There are several ways to do it, depending on where you’ve found the image.

Ways that you can save a picture on Mac:

1. Save pictures from the web on a MacBook

To download a picture on a MacBook from the web:

  1. Open your web browser (Chrome, Safari, or similar) and find the image, right-click on the picture, or press Control while clicking.
  2. Choose Save Image As.
  3. Select where you want to save the image, give your file a name, then click Save.

2. Download images from emails or messages on Mac

Maybe you want to download an image someone emailed you on your Mac. Was it sent as an attachment? Simply open the email and click the Download or Save button next to your attachment. If the picture was in the email body, right-click on it and choose Save Attachment, just like you would on a webpage.

  1. Find the attachment in the email, and click the Download or Save button.
  2. Choose where you want to save the attachment, and press Save.

3. Save screenshots on Mac

You can use shortcuts to take quick screenshots on macOS:

  • Command+Shift+3: Captures the entire screen
  • Command+Shift+4: Lets you select an area of the screen to capture

Once you’ve taken a screenshot, you can edit it—you might want to crop out some sections or highlight other parts.

4. Save images from messages and social media apps

You might want to save a picture on a Mac from an app like Messenger or WhatsApp. The process might be slightly different in some apps, but generally, you’ll want to find a Download button.

To download an image on Mac from a messaging app:

  1. Click on the image.
  2. Then press the Download button.

5. Download images from cloud services

6. Save images from an external device

If you’ve got images on a camera or external flash drive, you can copy them to your MacBook.

To download a picture on a MacBook from an external device:

  1. Attach your external device to your MacBook and find the folder that contains the photos. External devices are usually listed in the sidebar under Locations.
  2. Select the photos you want to copy, right-click on them, and choose Copy.
  3. Go to your destination folder and right-click. Choose Paste Item.

Where to find saved images on Mac

Once you’ve downloaded images, you might have another question. Where are photos stored on Mac?

If you’ve chosen a download location for your images, they will be there. You might have chosen a folder when you saved them, or maybe you put them on your Desktop. But if you can’t remember, you can find recently saved files in your Recents folder.

There are two ways to access your Recent Items.

To access your Recent Items on Mac:

  1. Go to Apple menu > Recent Items.
  2. In Finder, click Recents in the sidebar.
