How to add website to favorites on Mac?
We’ve found the easiest way to add a website to favorites on Mac is to visit the site in Safari, click the Share button—which looks like a rounded square with an arrow pointing out of the top—on the right-side of the toolbar, then choose Add to Bookmarks. You’ll see a notification that confirms the site has been saved, and you can click it to change which bookmarks list it’s saved to if you wish.
Here’s a more detailed look at adding a site to favorites in Safari or to other popular browsers for macOS:
Add to favorite website in Safari
Make website favorite in Google Chrome
Bookmarking as favorite site in Microsoft Edge
Favoriting a site in Opera
Add a favorite website in Mozilla Firefox
1. Add to favorite website in Safari
Apple’s Safari is built in and set as the default web browser in the macOS operating system, and we’ve noticed that it’s also the preferred choice for many Mac users. If you’re a Safari lover, here’s how you can add a favorite website:
In Safari, visit the page you want to favorite.
Press the Share button, which looks like a square with an arrow pointing out of the top, in the toolbar.
Click Add to Bookmarks.
If you want to change which favorites like the site is saved to, click the notification that pops up on screen, then choose a different list.
Step 1. Go to a site then click Share > Add to BookmarksStep 2. Click the notification to edit the favoriteStep 3. Name the site, then click Done
When you want to access this site in future, simply select it from the Bookmarks menu, or press Option + Command + B to access all favorites. To make your most-visited sites even easier to access, we suggest learning how to customize Safari on Mac to add bookmarks to the Favorites Bar.
2. Make website favorite in Google Chrome
If you prefer to use Google’s Chrome browser on your Apple MacBook Air, it’s just as easy to make a website favorite by following these steps:
Visit the site you want to favorite in Google Chrome.
Click the star icon on the right side of the address bar.
Change the site’s name if you wish and choose which favorites folder to save it to, then click Done.
Click the star icon, confirm the site name, then click Done
Like Apple’s Safari browser, Google Chrome lets you access your favorite websites, and all your favorites folders, from the Bookmarks menu, or by pressing Option + Command + B. Go to Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager to select which favorites you’d like to display in the Bookmarks Bar.
3. Bookmarking as favorite site in Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge is built upon the same Chromium project as Google Chrome, so it has many of the same features. In fact, we’ve found that bookmarking a favorite site in Edge uses the same process:
Go to the site you want to bookmark or favorite in Microsoft Edge.
Select the star icon in the right-side of the Edge address bar.
Rename the site if you’d like, choose where to bookmark it, then click Done.
Click the star icon then choose Done
Edge doesn’t have a Bookmarks menu; instead, we access our saved sites by clicking Favorites in the menu bar, or by pressing Option + Command + B on your keyboard.
4. Favoriting a site in Opera
The Opera browser for Mac is also based on Chromium, but it has a very different interface, which takes a little getting used to when we’re switching from Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Fortunately, it’s just as easy to start favoriting sites in Opera:
In Opera, visit the page you want to favorite.
Select the heart icon on the right-side of the toolbar.
Click the website’s name to change it if you want to, choose where to save it, then click Done.
Select the heart icon then click Done
To view our favorite websites in Opera, we can click the heart icon in the lower-left corner of the app window, or click Bookmarks in the menu bar. Alternatively, we can press Option + Command + B to open the Bookmarks panel. Here, you can organize your folders and add sites to the Bookmarks Bar.
5. Add a favorite website in Mozilla Firefox
If Mozilla’s Firefox web browser is your preferred choice on Mac, follow these steps to favorite a website:
Visit the site you want to visit in Firefox.
Click the star on the right-side of the search bar to favorite the website.
Give the site a name, select where you want to save it, then click Save.
Choose the star icon then click Save
Favorite websites in Firefox can be found by selecting Bookmarks in the menu bar, or by pressing the Option + Command + B shortcut. Go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks, or press Shift + Command + O, to organize your favorite sites and add them to the Bookmarks Toolbar.
How to unfavorite website on Mac?
To unfavorite or remove a website from our bookmarks in Safari on macOS, we go to Bookmarks > Edit Bookmarks, or use the Option + Command + B keyboard shortcut. Find and right-click the website you want to remove, then choose Delete. Alternatively, for sites saved to the Bookmarks Bar, you can simply drag them away and then release the mouse button.
Step 1. Go to Bookmarks > Edit BookmarksStep 2. Right-click the site, then choose Delete to unfavorite it
You can use the same Option + Command + B keyboard shortcut to access your favorite websites in Chrome, Edge, Opera, and Firefox. You can then right-click the site to remove it, but be advised that this process doesn’t actually block websites in Safari on Mac, or in any other browser.
Conclusion
It’s easy to mark a website as a favorite on a Mac, whether you use Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, or Firefox. All have built-in bookmarking tools and the ability to add sites to the Bookmarks Bar so that they’re only a click away.
To upgrade your browsing experience even further, we recommend installing MacKeeper’s StopAd tool from Clario Tech. It blocks ads, popups, and invasive trackers across all sites you visit so that they’re cleaner and nicer to look at, quicker to load, and don’t invade your privacy.
