Your iPhone can be a constant distraction when you need to focus, get some rest, or simply enjoy some time offline. MacKeeper’s StopAd minimizes online disruptions by blocking intrusive ads and pop-ups, keeping your browser experience smooth and free of distractions.
Flip the mute switch on the side of your device to remove notifications. An orange bell icon with a line through it will appear on your screen. iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max owners can use the Action button instead.
A note from our experts:
Pop-up ads and spam notifications don’t just clutter your screen; they can also expose you to security and privacy risks. This includes malware infections, spyware, phishing attacks, and more. MacKeeper’s StopAd tool gives you greater control over your browsing experience and reduces security risks by blocking these pop-ups and stopping trackers from monitoring you. This makes it easier to navigate web pages for smoother, worry-free browsing.

Now that you know how to enjoy a less intrusive browsing experience on your MacBook, let’s dive into the various methods to put silence notifications on iPhone. We’ll focus on six solutions you can try when you need a break from your iPhone notifications, even just for a moment.
1. Focus Mode on iPhone
The quickest way to block out the noise when you need silence is by enabling Focus Mode on your iPhone. For that reason, it’s always our first option for silencing notifications—and you can do it in about five seconds if you know how to use the Control Center shortcut. Here’s how:
Swipe up or down your screen to access the Control Center, depending on your iPhone model.
Tap Focus.
Choose one of the focus modes on the list—like Personal, Work, or Sleep, depending on your reasons—by tapping your preferred one. Note that while all the listed modes, except for Do Not Disturb, will silence notifications, the notifications will still appear on your screen. Keep this in mind when choosing a focus mode.
Step 1. Open the Control Center and tap FocusStep 2. Choose a focus mode
2. Use "Do Not Disturb" mode
When muting notifications isn’t enough, and we don’t want to see them pop up on our phones either, turning on Do Not Disturb mode is the answer. Choose this option when you don’t want your phone to bother you until you’re ready to engage or shift your attention away from what you’re busy with. However, we’d warn you against ignoring Apple security alert notifications, which typically require your urgent attention.
Here’s how to enable Do Not Disturb mode on your iPhone:
Open your phone’s Control Center and select Focus.
Tap the Do Not Disturb option.
Step 1. Open the Control Center and tap FocusStep 2. Choose the Do Not Disturb option
3. Silent mode switch on iPhone
Another quick method we often turn to is the silent mode switch on the side of our iPhones. It’s quick, convenient, and easily accessible. Note, however, that iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models don’t have this switch. They have an Action button instead.
Follow this approach to use the silent mode switch on your iOS device:
Find the silent mode switch on the left side of your phone.
Toggle it off.
4. Manage and mute notifications for specific apps
Maybe your WhatsApp group is overly active and overwhelming you. Luckily, Apple allows you to mute specific iOS apps, which is what we usually do when we temporarily need a break. You can, too.
Follow these steps to mute notifications on iPhone for a specific app:
Open the iOS Settings app, find the app you want to mute notifications for, and tap Notifications.
Disable the option to Allow Notifications.
Step 1. Tap NotificationsStep 2. Disable Allow Notifications
When muting app notifications on your phone isn’t enough, you can also clear all notifications on Mac. This will ensure you have all your iPhone notifications silenced.
5. Mute messages and chats
When we don’t have time to check our chats and messages, we temporarily mute them until we’re ready to respond. Note, however, that this only mutes push notifications, which means you’ll still be able to see them.
Here’s how to mute messages and chats on iOS:
In your Settings app, select Notifications > Messages.
For work and other purposes, we like to schedule notifications to mute between certain times. You can do this, too, if you require silence during a certain period of the day.
Follow these steps to schedule when you want to receive notifications on your iPhone:
Access focus modes from the Control Center and tap the plus (+) icon at the bottom.
Tap Custom and name your focus mode.
Hit the Customize Focus button.
Tap Add Schedule.
Select Time.
Enter your preferred times.
Step 1. Add a focus modeStep 2. Tap CustomStep 3. Select Customize FocusStep 4. Tap Add ScheduleStep 5. Select TimeStep 6. Enter your preferred times
